He didn’t live here, and he didn’t live there. As a matter of fact, I don’t think he lived anywhere. But let me roll back the years and start near the beginning.

I was born and raised in a metropolitan city. Thirty-five years later, I got my college degree and PhD in street education. I was lucky to be relocated to a very small and rural mountain community. It was here that I started to fall in love with the flora and fauna of nature.

One beautiful morning, while I was sitting on the porch, I noticed a regal-looking Siamese cat slowly sauntering down the middle of my cul-de-sac. I did some detective work to find out who this cat, “King George,” belonged to. Later that day, I had gathered enough info to tuck away for another story on another day.

I had now made it a point to watch for King George every day. He didn’t disappoint. He was about five years old, 20 pounds, beautiful beige with black pointed ears and nose. Quite handsome in his regal way. He was never in a hurry and looked as if he owned our three-house cul-de-sac.

Not long after King George came into my life, to my better delight, he surprised me to no end. One day on his morning stroll, a straight line of 3 kittens was walking behind him, following his every step. These kittens were not Siamese but other mixed varieties. I enjoyed watching King George’s kitten parade. They were out there every day in the middle of a cul-de-sac for quite a while.

Then, one day, there was no parade, no kittens, no King George. I searched for a while but to no avail. I was deeply saddened, and I had no answer for their disappearance except that I lived in the country with many predators. I had to assume nature had run its course.

All I can say is I was blessed to witness King George and his kitten parade. I hope you, too, can witness something just as charming pass through your realm.
