Ingredients:
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp allspice
½ tsp nutmeg
1 cup chopped almonds
½ cup softened butter
½ cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup apple sauce
1 egg
1 apple
Soft caramel candies
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Sift flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg into a bowl. Chop almonds and mix them into dry ingredients.
In a separate bowl, soften the butter in the microwave. Mix brown sugar with butter until the mixture is consistent. Add apple sauce and mix. Add egg and mix.
Combine dry and wet ingredients.

Place small drops of dough on a cookie sheet and flatten slightly. Slice apple into small thin pieces and place on top of cookie dough. Add a caramel to the center of cookie dough.
Place in oven and bake for 13 minutes.

Most recipes will tell you to let it cool, but I highly recommend eating it fresh out of the oven while the caramel is still warm and gooey. This is the perfect cookie to celebrate autumn. It’s not too sweet, and the applesauce makes this cookie nice and soft. Enjoy with hot apple cider or spiced tea. Spend a cool fall evening on the porch or reading inside by candlelight. Your book is sure to collect these September cookie crumbs.
