“Juniper Hill” is where we left off with “Indigo Ridge.” However, in this story, we are greeted with a new character and love interests. Memphis Ward is a new mom who is experiencing the fifth worst day of her life. That’s right, she keeps track of her worst and best days. Memphis has traveled across the country to end up in Quincy, Montana. Memphis is starting her new job at the Eloise Inn. Eloise Eden, the manager at the inn, has promised her a cheap place to live. The housing Eloise has set up just so happens to be the loft at Knox, her older brother’s house. Knox is grumpy and broody. The house he built for himself is far away from other people for a reason. The proximity between Knox and Memphis sets up an interesting dynamic. Not only do they now live on the same property, but they work for the same business. Knuckles is the restaurant attached to the Eloise Inn.
Memphis and Knox have their secrets and reservations about starting a relationship. Throughout the story, Memphis keeps the father of her child a secret. Why is that? There is more than meets the eye with Memphis. She may be struggling now, but Memphis did not grow up that way. Memphis came from a world of luxury and success. Now that she has lost that, she must figure out how to survive without that safety net and protect her son. Knox wants to help strip those walls down and show Memphis she is a strong, beautiful woman. Knox and Memphis were delightful to watch as they grow throughout the book. The characters in “Juniper Hill” leave you with this familiar feeling, like they are people you know in real life. You find yourself rooting for them through their success and crying with them through their failures. The setting of this story is a beautiful scene that feels like a warm and cozy hug. The small town of Quincy has its quirks, but at the end of the day, they all make sure they are there for the community. This is shown flawlessly in the final few chapters.
Overall, I feel “Juniper Hill” is a great read. The high that “Indigo Ridge” left me with had me worried the sequel would not live up to the bar. That was not the case. If you are looking for a new series that will sweep you off your feet and give you the perfect mixture of danger and excitement, read The Edens. This series is a great way to introduce yourself to thrillers if you usually read romance. The characters are well-rounded and relatable. Quincy, Montana, feels like a town you would vacation in or move to and settle down for a relaxing, slower-paced life.
I look forward to continuing the series and sharing my thoughts.
