Here where I stand
There are many distractions,
Wealth and power
Love and lust
Each one has its place
But they took my heart so quickly
Just like tobacco
They have no warning.
From the highest person
To the lowest man,
Each one has his day
Every power without discipline
They have no control
Our ears hear of odes
Odes sung for tyrants
Dirges sung for nobles
Yet distractions are all around.
In my soul
I keep a memory locked,
My thoughts are just like mazes
A maze worse than Crete
If I could escape these labyrinths
Then let my heart be clear as a crystal.
Here where I stand
Love is but a memory,
Husbands are never faithful
Wives become liars
Children become violent
Everything is but a distraction
A distraction wired to bring the apocalypse
Save me from these vices
Let my heart be a temple
A temple only to God.
