It was New Year’s Eve, and Charlotte was excited to attend her best friend, Lila’s, New Year’s Eve Party this year because she was hoping that Levi, the guy she had been crushing on for the past two years, would finally kiss her. Charlotte had his name written all over the notebooks she used at school, and all her friends knew she liked him. Levi was on the soccer team. He had brown hair and brown eyes, and she always thought he was smiling at her in class. Little did he know that Charlotte thought he was one of the cutest guys she had ever seen. She was very shy and afraid to tell him how she felt about him.
For the New Year’s Eve party this year, she was hoping that he would kiss her at midnight, so she knew she would have to wear a cute outfit to impress him. She decided to wear a light pink sweater dress, cream-colored tights, and her favorite tan Ugg boots. It was the perfect winter outfit for New Year’s Eve, and she hoped that Levi would like it too. Lila would be at her house soon, but before that, she decided to put on some strawberry-flavored lip gloss so that her lips would be a little pinker than usual. Charlotte didn’t really wear makeup very often, but she thought she would tonight because she hoped Levi would finally notice her and kiss her.
Before Lila rang her doorbell, Charlotte looked out the window and realized it had started snowing a bit. It was the first snow of the winter season, and she knew she would not be able to leave the house without grabbing her winter coat. Her winter coat was white with a gold zipper; she also wore gray mittens and a white knitted beanie, which helped keep her warm in the frigid winter weather. By the time Lila got to her house, the roads were almost completely covered with snow. Luckily, Lila’s house was only a few streets over, so they didn’t have to drive very far to get there.
When Charlotte and Lila arrived at the party, there were a few last-minute things to prepare, so Charlotte helped Lila put up the rest of the decorations and prepare her famous snack mix. The snack mix consisted of Muddy Buddies, red and green M&Ms, chocolate chips, and fruity-flavored mini marshmallows. They also had green popcorn, Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes, and a few charcuterie boards. This year’s party would be one to remember, complete with fun snacks. Charlotte couldn’t wait for the guests to arrive at the party because she hoped Levi would be one of the first to arrive.
When their friends started arriving at the party, Levi ended up being one of the first ones to come, and right away, he glanced in her direction and smiled at her. As she was sipping her mug full of hot chocolate, she got a little whipped cream on her upper lip, and she tried to wipe it off with the sleeve of her sweater dress, but that was sort of an embarrassingly epic failure. Suddenly, Levi rushed over to her with a napkin so she could wipe her mouth off, and thanked him. So, he had been watching her since he arrived. He probably had caught her in more awkward moments whenever she caught him staring at her while they were in class. Charlotte always caught herself dropping her pencil in class, and she always bumped her head on her desk as she was picking it up off the floor. Despite all of that, somehow Levi still found her cute even when she was making a complete fool out of herself in front of him.
After she finished her hot chocolate, she and Levi went into the living room to sit on the couch together because Lila had her television playing Christmas movies all night. Currently, Elf was playing, and it turned out that not only was it one of Charlotte’s favorite Christmas movies, but she also found out that it was one of Levi’s as well, because he was able to quote almost every line of it along with her.
As the movie finished, the clock on the wall began drifting closer to midnight, which meant that hopefully Levi would finally kiss her. So, he asked Charlotte if she wanted to go outside for some fresh air so that they could be alone without their friends around. This was it, she thought, Levi is finally going to give me a magical New Year’s Eve kiss. Before she went outside, she reached into her purse for her lip gloss and reapplied it. After putting on more lip gloss, she walked outside with Levi, and as the cold snow fell against her cheeks, she became more eager to finally receive her first kiss from the boy who noticed her in every crowded classroom they sat in together. As Levi checked the time on his phone, he realized that it was 11:58, which meant that it was almost time to kiss Charlotte for the first time. As they heard their friends counting down to midnight inside, they both leaned in and kissed each other. For the first time in her whole life, Charlotte truly felt as though winter was just as magical as people said it was.
