Red, White, Blue

Red, the color of rage,

Of passion that would never cease.

Red, the color of a nation

Born of blood and tears,

Where the cries of the forefathers rang

Out across the Appalachian mountains

Red spilled the ground

Of voices wishing for a voice

Red bloomed the flowers

Promising a new freedom granted once more

Red for the fires

Lighting the midnight rides

Red for the soldiers

Bearing the Royal Crown.

White, the color of innocence,

Of people wishing

For something greater.

White, the color of surrender

For they surrendered their loyalty

To the man on the throne

White for the clean slate

That the forefathers longed for

White glowed the skins

Of the Revolution leaders

White glowed the shots

That rang through the dawn

White bleached the ground

Where the ashes coated the dead.

Blue, the color of calm

A Royal color, indeed

Did they stain with their treachery.

Blue, the color of a Union

A Union with no crown

But several heads

United for a cause

Blue they mourned

The loss of innocence

History stole from them.

Blue, the skies they shared

With the Crown of Heaven.

Blue, the oceans

That separate them.

Blue, the heart that beat within.

Blue, the nobility once lost

Among them.

Blue.

The peace they sought.

The quiet they loved.

Never did they expect

The blue to bleed black.
