It was a rainy morning in early September as Corinne curled up on the couch under a cozy blanket, her new cat, Olive, in her lap, reading one of her favorite books. Corinne had just gotten Olive a week ago, and ever since then, she had become her new best friend. Corinne adopted Olive from the Maplewood Animal Rescue last Tuesday. Olive had come right out of her cage at the shelter and had let Corinne pet her. She was a very friendly and cuddly black-and-white cat with lots of love to give.
After adopting Olive, Corinne took her to her Uncle Ben’s pet store to pick out some things for her. She knew from reading about cats online that she needed to get Olive a lot of things, like food and water bowls, a hairbrush, cat litter, a litter box, a few cat toys, a cat perch, and maybe even a cat bed. Corinne wasn’t entirely sure what she was doing because she had never owned a cat before. Growing up, Corinne had only really been allowed to have a few pet goldfish, so owning a pet that required much more love and care was very new to her. But for as long as she could remember, she had always wanted a pet cat.
Cats were one of her favorite animals, but unfortunately, Corinne’s little brother Steven was allergic to cats, so she was never able to have one when she was little. Corinne had recently started college, and she knew that she was allowed to adopt a pet to have in her apartment with her, so she knew right away that it was time for her to finally adopt a cat. Luckily for Corinne, she didn’t have a roommate, so she didn’t have to worry about whether or not they would be fine with her having a pet or not.
Olive was the perfect companion for Corinne because she always loved following her all over her apartment. So far, Olive’s favorite thing to do with her was lying in her lap, and the two of them would take naps together when Corinne wasn’t in her classes or spending time with her best friend, Savannah. Savannah was more of a dog person, but she also really adored Olive so far. Olive had the cutest yellow eyes, and whenever she looked at Corinne, she just wanted to pick her up and hold her because she was so cute. As Corinne slowly closed her book and looked down at Olive asleep in her lap, she listened to her soft little purrs she felt a deep sense of warmth inside her chest. After years of wishing, hoping, and dreaming she finally had the little companion she had always dreamed of. With Olive with her, everything in her life finally felt complete.
