Poetry- Him And Her

Dear gentle reader,

I wished it could be him and me.

I longed for him to say, ‘her and me.’

But it was always him and her

Never him and me.

There was always a ‘her

Even if she was not here

I could always see her through him

Through his eyes

The one I wished to be was not me

She was the one

He did not look at me like he did at her

I was somehow invisibly visible between them

I was always the companion

The outsider, the uninvited guest

I recognized the truth only after the opportunity had passed

But why her and not Me

I find myself continually pondering

Endlessly contemplating

Why her and not Me

There are many factors at play

When all is said and done

Even though she did not win

I ended up losing…
