Margaret wanted to be the perfect wife, mother, and homemaker someday. She had just turned eighteen, and her parents were pushing her to find a good husband to marry. Since it was the 1950s, most women her age weren’t going to college. Her parents decided to set her up on a date with a nice Catholic boy from church named Frank. Frank was in the church choir, the quarterback on his college football team, and a handsome young man.
Margaret and Frank had their first date at Joe’s Diner one Friday night, where they ordered cheeseburgers, French fries, and chocolate milkshakes. They ate their meal together, and Frank took his napkin and wiped the ketchup off the corners of Margaret’s mouth. Margaret was a bit embarrassed that she was making a mess of herself in front of such a handsome gentleman. As they drank their chocolate milkshakes, they glanced longingly into each other’s eyes, and it was love at first sight.
In April 1956, two months after their first date, they got married in the local Catholic church. Margaret was a blushing bride, and she wore a beautiful white dress that was handsewn by her mother, Carolyn; her bridesmaids were all wearing matching blush pink dresses, and her father, George, walked her down the aisle.
At their wedding reception that was held at town hall, Margaret and Frank had their first dance to “Love Is Here To Stay” By Frank Sinatra. Their wedding menu consisted of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans. They had an extravagant three-tier wedding cake that was vanilla flavored, with white icing and pink flowers. The cake topper looked just like her and Frank, and they were both so pleased with how their cake turned out.
After their honeymoon in Italy, Margaret discovered she was pregnant with her first child. She was so excited to be a mother, but at the same time, she was scared because she was afraid she wouldn’t be a great one. Nine months later, her beautiful daughter Amelia was born. Amelia was named after the pilot Amelia Earhart, and as Margaret held her in her arms, she hoped that she would be brave one day, just like Amelia Earhart. Two years later, she and Frank welcomed their first son, whom they named Henry, and a year after Henry was born, they ended up having another daughter that they named Maryellen.
Margaret and Frank ended up living the rest of their lives in the big yellow house they bought after they got married. They went on to have several grandchildren and lived happily ever after, just like in the fairytales Margaret got her happy ending.
