The Darling Doe

She is the Darling Doe,

Made flesh with the curves of a woman,

A love letter to the meadows her mother roams.

The windows to her soul dance with a marriage of honey and chocolate,

As if the spirit of innocence from the terrified doe was captured on the face of a woman.

Mercury does not care for her,

For the doe prefers the company of daydreams and fairies.

Yet Mercury does not know that the Darling Doe was painted to look helpless and docile,

So she may be protected. And loved.

But the artist made a grave error

To put his faith in the kindness of humans.

So now the Darling Doe must live in her own world,

stargazing and cloud chasing.

For it seems the humans in this world are more animal than she

Perhaps if Mercury knew,

Perhaps.

This poem is about “doe” women who seem docile and in their own world. Inspired by characters such as Cat Valentine from Victorious and Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. It’s about how these women often have to live in their own worlds and seemingly escape reality because of past trauma. Mercury, in astrology, is the planet of communication and often linked with intelligence and genius and so doe women are quite the opposite of mercury as they often come across dumb and naïve. However, that’s usually just a front they have developed as a form of protection.
