Fleeting Wish

If I had the chance to sit with you tonight,

I would look you in the eyes,

The way I always do,

 Whenever I see you smile.

If I had the chance to be by your side tonight,

I would tell you all the funniest jokes,

That would keep you laughing;

And I wouldn’t stop even if you choked.

If I had the chance to share the room with you tonight,

Oh, my Belgium chocolate, I’d be your pillow.

You did rest your head on my shoulders,

At your leisure, till dawn broke the morrow.

I’d tell you sweet bedtime stories,

Ones fresh from Shakespeare’s climb.

I’d read you my best poems,

That would make you sleep calmly.

If I had the chance to be with you tonight,

Starlight, I would want to be your comforter.

Curl your velvet skin under my comfort;

Shut your bewitching eyes and relish your slumber.
