Playing tic-tac-toe,
And hide-and-seek;
Racing round the camp,
With old tires every day of the week.
Building a spider’s house;
Decorating it with flowers,
Like during the dry season,
Oh! it was some season to remember.
Playing our game of “ouui” when the moon was up;
Running round the camp,
With our happy faces glowing,
Like a new Chinese lamp.
Wrestling in the field’s late evenings,
My playmates and I.
Long forgotten that,
The day had said goodbye.
Sprawled beside grandma’s knees,
Yearning to hear her sweet stories.
Oh, how I would impatiently look,
Forward to the coming of the holidays!
Singing and dancing under the rain;
Rolling with colleagues in the mud.
Did I even know I would reach this far?
But how would I have known, am I God?
Visiting the nearby creeks,
On hot Saturday afternoons.
Swimming and somersaulting in the waters,
As we played “Uncle Jones”.
Name a game of your childhood.
I swear, I did it all.
Once upon a time,
Yesterday, when I was small.
