For all of that summer, all i did was yearn
For you, lover
Waiting like a dog at the door for you
A cycle of idolizing you
And isolating myself
Asking if i would ever see your sweet return
When all i needed was to find myself
It was seemingly never-ending
A cruel cycling of July heat
Clashing with the cold of your heart
And your hands unjustly grabbing my hair
After that summer came the autumn
The fall of your corrupt empire
The rumble that your castle made
As it would crumble
At just the touch of my fingers
A fragile persona in place to trick your prey
Like a cool predator lurking
In the forest where the leaves turn orange
And red like the blush on my cheeks as you
Would feel my heart ache
And burn as you pushed me
Into the flames of your betrayal
After the autumn came the unforgiving winter
Where it finally seemed like i
Conquered your heart
And crumbled your wall
For once, i had power
Til you took it away
The bed made whilst i was asleep
My stomach in knots as the sheets pulled
Off the corner of life and lust
Then you left.
After the winter came the spring
And i met a girl
And she was beautiful
And kind
And gentle
And not you
And that felt right
So many told us it was wrong
I knew it was right
She was everything all at once
And for the first time since you left
I could see
And hear
And feel
Like a real person
As i felt the pieces of me twisting together
Wrapping around each other like string
I knew where i yearned to stay
Right where i was
Here.
I have to stay here
With her
And just let time pass
Forever
For all eternity
For summer
Autumn
Winter
And spring
And i take pride in knowing
I’ll never see your cruel return
Stranger.
