On a May morning
A secret beneath
The rich soil unfolds
A tiny black seed
Grew over time
A sturdy stem
An abundance of leaves
Just a little more time
As the sunlight hovers
Warming East to West
A rain shower waters
Leaves protect
Yellow flowers peek through
In the gentle breeze
Tiny green spheres plumping
Turning to a deep red
Eight hang
Skin so smooth
Ready to burst
Each one pops off with ease
A rinse in a colander
What to make with these gifts
Sauce…
Jam…
Tart…
Or
Maybe stuff them
I hear salsa is the craze
Parmesan roasted bites
Tantalizing my palette
For now
I’ll hold one like an apple
A sprinkle of salt
And take a delicious bite
