There’s something about August and early September that always screams back-to-school season. With that, I love reading books like Gossip Girl or The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand, which brings me to Prep. It was the perfect back-to-school-season pickup this year, although I technically finished it in late July while on vacation in Florida. It still gave me all the back-to-school vibes!
The book Prep follows a girl named Lee Fiora, who’s on scholarship at a prestigious prep school in Massachusetts. Throughout the book, she talks internally about the power struggles of being middle class and the wealth she’s surrounded by at school. She also reflects on friendships, boys she has crushes on, growing up through both the good and the bad, and all of the awkward teenage feelings that come with four years of high school.
Lee’s thoughts drew me in, and I actually found her super relatable, especially the part with her situationship, the Valentine’s flowers, and the casual dating of it all. When you get there, I’m sure you’ll find that relatable too!
All in all, for me, I think that despite the Goodreads reviews, Curtis Sittenfeld wrote a book that truly stands the test of time and captures all the raw emotion and teenage angst of growing up!
So, pick up Prep and experience the book 21 years later. I think it still feels just modern enough, and I really enjoyed it!
