Below is a list of solemn promises
I had bound myself to
My only weakness
Was driving as only I had the key
I promise I was sober
Ascetic, clear-headed, cold sober
But adrenaline was rushing through my veins
Heart in drums as I vowed
“Shalt I lose heart
I will climb mountains
To secure yours tight
So, it might beat twice as much
For the both of us”
It was naive of me
Now I am stricken in the spirit
Awaken but not living
Stuck in time
Due to the vague feeling
Of a fiasco in my reeling
Then, like that wasn’t oppressive enough
I climbed brick walls
And oathed
“In life, two
I shalt strive
To see a smile
Brightening up your face
Failure shalt reek my tomb
And well bedridden fate
Shall climb the bridge of haste”
If loving thee was a crime
Then I was never to be a sinner
Because I did not love
Obsession was embedded in my lungs
I carried your life in my shoulders
Burdened, wilt in my vines
But only with a smile
As onerous as it might sound
I put the pedal to the metal
And strings slowly attached
To the substrate
Only to enhance the emotion
And collapse the obligation at heart
